Conquering Sibling Rivalry
Sibling rivalry can take a toll on the whole family and from time to time, it does get out of control. It is actually normal for siblings to argue and fight sometimes, but it certainly isn’t pleasant.
I have read lots of resources written by professionals on the topic. Many of them say that parents shouldn’t get involved when their children argue unless violence becomes an issue.
Rather, they recommend that you lay down some rules, like no yelling, name calling or hitting, and emphasize that those things will result in consequences. Basically, you let the kids work out their problems. As a parent, you set a good example about how to work out problems.
Sounds good, but how do you get to that point where the kids can resolve their problems civilly?
Adele Faber and Elaine Mazlish are seasoned parenting advisors who authored a book specifically to address the problem. It is called Siblings Without Rivalry How to Help Your Children.

Siblings Without Rivalry How to Help Your Children
By Adele Faber / Harpercollins
When parenting authorities Adele Faber and Elaine Mazlish sat down to write the national bestseller How to Talk So Kids Will Listen & Listen So Kids Will Talk, they found that they couldn't contain their chapter on sibling rivalry. No matter how much they tried to pare down their advice, they found the subject inexhaustible-and their readers agreed! The result is this seminal book-revised and updated after more than ten years of feedback from parents' letters, TV and radio talk shows, and Faber and Mazlish's highly successful parenting workshops. Siblings Without Rivalry guides the way to family peace and tranquillity with humor and compassion for both parents and children. Illustrated, action-oriented, and easy to understand, it's packed with sensitive yet sensible ways to turn quarreling siblings and frustrated parents into an open, commuincative family.
