Inspiring Tips on Raising Teenagers

Raising Teenagers

Raising teenagers is a whole new experience when compared to bouncing that baby on your knee. I think a lot of parents are discouraged by hearing about problems that some parents experience with their children when they reach adolescence and beyond.

Teenagers generally get a bad rap because they are often stereotyped. Not all teenagers engage in teen risky behavior and not all of them are belligerent or challenging to parental authority .

At any rate, the responsibilities and concerns do change as the child grows and develops into an adult, so raising teenagers can be confusing to say the least. Resources about teenage parenting can help you to understand what is going on, what to expect and how to deal with it.

Are you raising teenagers and you are concerned about the influence that your teen is receiving outside of the home?

Then you might be interested in Mary Ronan’s book titled Raising Your Children in an Ungodly World. It identifies three things that every teen is concerned with and helps you, as a parent, to help your kids to deal with them.

Do you find it difficult to relate to your teenager? Mary Ronan can help. In speaking to thousands of teens each year, Mary has discovered the three things that most concern our youth today: pressure, drugs and alcohol, and sex. In this program Mary explores how the media and popular culture assault our youth and offers parents guidance on how to talk to teens and help them deal with these influences. Her suggestions are built around three major themes: love them, lead them, and limit them. Here is practical advice that will help you to help your teenager.

Ever wondered how teens really think?

Life is full of transitions - especially during a child's teenage years when many of these transitions are difficult, complex and frustrating. Teenage rebellion, the generation gap, poor choices with long-term effects - these describe the journey of all too many teenagers. In this book, author and speaker Dr. Virginia Friesen proposes a series of rite-of-passage celebrations - or trail markers - at the significant birthdays of 13, 16, 18, and 21 to help get teens through the difficult transitions in positive, life-giving ways. This is a much-needed and relevant resource for our times when it is so easy for our children to be led down a wrong path. Reading this book will not only equip you to blaze the trail and bless your teen, but it will also give you the confidence and tools you need to enjoy the hike.

Based on her years of experience as a mother, counselor, and family-life educator, author Susan Vogt sets out to inspire, equip, and comfort parents in the awesome task of raising kids who will make positive contributions to the world. Using a delightful blend of honesty and humor, "Vogt offers straightforward discussions on important issues like sexuality, racism, global awareness, and spirituality. Personal family anecdotes, stories from other experienced parents, and perspective from Vogt's own children enhance the practical information while revealing many successful, and some not-so-successful, strategies. Raising Kids Who Will Make a Difference provides ideas rather than answers. This book offers valuable information and parenting strategies for children of all ages and stages of development, from toddlers to teenagers. Each chapter concludes with reflection activities to stimulate discussion for the whole family. Parents who offer positive affirmation, use good communication skills, and show sensitivity to others teach their children valuable life lessons and the true meaning of love. Vogt attempts to dispel the myth of the perfect parent and encourages parents to equip their children with necessary life skills. "In the end we can never control how our children will turn out. That is up to them. We are responsible for the process we use in parenting, not the outcome."
