Parenting Tips for the Homeschooler

Parenting tips are plentiful, but when it comes homeschooling your children, you really need support from people who have been there. I don’t declare to be an expert, but I did home school my children for three years. I found that associating with other people who taught their children at home to be inspiring.

Parenting Tips for Homeschoolers

Tip #1

Number one of the parenting tips that I got was advice to join the Home School Legal Defense Association (HSLDA) . Sometimes people who home school are given a hard time and they need legal advice, but that is not all that HSLDA does. They lobby for our rights to educate our children at home and they provide a slew of resources for home school parents. Joining the organization is well worth your time and money.

Tip #2

Be sure to register with the State Education Department and to find out the requirements for homeschooling in your state. You can get some insight into that on the HSLDA website. They are pretty good at keeping things up to date.

Tip #3

Set your schedule in stone. I kept the same school days as the public schools because it was easier for us for the kids to have days off the same time that their public school friends did. Homeschooling gives you flexibility, but kids really do need a standard schedule.

Tip #4

Parenting Tips for a Home School Make learning fun! One of the advantages of homeschooling is that you can teach basic Bible knowledge to advanced Bible knowledge. You can also do all kinds of projects in a variety of places. Sometimes, we went down to the river and rented a paddle boat and did our reading while paddling away. We also incorporated our study of plants into planting a garden. Life experiences do count.

Tip #5

Involve your children in groups where they will have social contact with peers. Church groups are great for avoiding socialization problems, while giving the kids the opportunity to associate with kids their own age.
