Tools for a Bible Verse Search
There are many Bible verse search tools. The challenge is selecting the resources that will be best for you. Consider…
- How often will you use the tool
- The atmosphere that you are usually in when studying the Bible
- The age level and understanding of the user
- The depth of your studies
Bible concordances are tools that are helpful to finding specific Bible verses…
Most Bibles have a mini-concordance in the back of the Bible which is useful for a Bible verse search on the run, but it may not be adequate for in depth personal studies, setting up a
small group Bible study
, organizing
preschool Bible lessons
, or as a supplement to
home school Bible curriculum
.
Types of Bible concordances for a Bible verse search…
If you do most of your studying at desk, you might find an online concordance helpful to use in a Bible verse search.
BibleGatway.com
offers an online version of several translations of the Bible that you may find helpful. I usually do my studying in the bedroom, bathtub, in the dining room, or outside, so the online resource isn’t too good for me.
If you want the ultimate concordance, you will find by Strong, Kohlenberger and Swanson to be amazing.

I am most impressed with Strong’s publications and I believe the New International Version® of the Bible is the easiest to understand, so I also recommend The Strongest NIV Exhaustive Concordance if NIV® is your preference.

Charles F. Pfeiffer also published a helpful tool that combines a dictionary and concordance in one book based on the King James version. It is great for a Bible verse search if you grew with the King James version as I did. It is called The New Combined Bible Dictionary and Concordance.

The New Combined Bible Dictionary and Concordance
By Charles F. Pfeiffer / Baker
Two terrific resources are merged into this convenient volume that features over 10,000 concise but comprehensive entries. The concordance function lets you quickly identify the exact King James quotation you're looking for, while the dictionary entries provide clear definitions and explanations of Scripture terms including persons and places. This resource also features a brief introduction by Charles F. Pfeiffer on "How to Study the Bible."

I also find by Ken Anderson useful. I have a mini-paperback version of it that I carry in my purse or in my car. It is not a full blown concordance; it is more like a topical resource that is good for a Bible verse search to find verses related to a certain topic.
